Pipex expertly fabricated replacement Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) spools using Bondstrand 2000M lined pipe, for the purpose of upgrading a previously installed metallic pipeline on board the Clipper Cuillin, a chemical tanker vessel.
Severely corroded metallic spools were removed from the Clipper Cuillin only 5 years after installation, highlighting that this material is unsuitable for long term use in such an abrasive environment.
Pipex non-corrosive GRE pipe was chosen to replace these spools because this product is highly corrosion resistant and so is more suited to a marine environment.
The new spools are non-conductive, have a design life expectancy of 60 years + depending on application, and are typically 1/3 the weight of the steel spools they replaced, making transportation easier and enabling fast track onsite installation.
